Presidential spokesman Harry Roque said in a statement the rice porridge or ‘lugaw’ is considerd an essential item. This after a video where an ECQ enforcer is questioning the legality of a rice porridge delivery during the ECQ period where a curfew is being implemented.
“A video, which has been circulating online, has come to our attention. Lugaw, or any food item for that matter, is considered an essential good. Delivery of food items must remain unhampered 24/7,” Harry Roque said.
Roque also appealed to enforcers not to prohibit food delivery riders at checkpoints.
In the viral video, an unidentified woman can be seen preventing a Grab delivery rider from delivering rice porridge to a customer because it is past the curfew time and insisted that rice porridge is not considered an essential item.
“Mabubuhay ang tao nang walang lugaw,” the woman said.
