Pope Francis, the beloved and groundbreaking leader of the Roman Catholic Church, passed away on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, at the age of 88.
The Vatican confirmed his death in an official statement, noting he died peacefully at 7:35 a.m. local time in his residence at Casa Santa Marta within Vatican City.
Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, announced the death in a solemn video address, stating, “With deep sorrow, we inform the faithful that our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has returned to the House of the Father.”
