Lawmaker suggests to use ABS-CBN frequencies for distance learning

Camarines Sur 2nd District Rep. LRay Villafuerte filed House Resolution No. 1044 which seeks to allow government to use ABS-CBN’s television and radio frequencies for distance learning. The House committee on legislative franchises voted 70-11 denying ABS-CBN its application for a new franchise.

Villafuerte who voted against ABS-CBN franchise grant said the frequencies can be used in areas where internet connectivity is not yet available.

“Inequality and inaccessibility of opportunities such as those pertaining to internet connectivity and possession of a laptop pose a variety of challenges for teachers and learners,” Villafuerte said.

“The unused frequencies may also be used for information on COVID-19 prevention and control, risk reduction and preparedness,” added the lawmaker.
